Compassionate care for your vision needs.

New Patient FAQs

Welcome to the River City Eye new patient information page. Thank you for considering our clinic for your eye care needs! Please review our FAQs for more information about your upcoming visit. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to call our office at 210-930-2015.

As a medical office, we evaluate, treat and manage many clinical eye diseases and conditions including cataracts. We invite you to view our educational page for more information on your specific eye condition and cataract surgery options available at our facility.

We will need the following items at your first visit (and subsequent annual visits): an ID card (such as a DL), a current medical insurance card, all eye medications, a list of all prescription medications you are currently taking, and any glasses or contacts that you wear on a regular basis.
The ophthalmologist needs to have a clear view of the back of the eye. As such, all new patients will be dilated so we recommend that you bring a comfortable pair of sunglasses. For more about what to expect, please visit our comprehensive exam page. In addition, for some patients, the dilation makes it difficult to drive. If you are sensitive to dilation, we recommend bringing someone to drive you home after your exam.

As a medical office, we do not take vision insurance; however, we take most medical insurances. Below you will find a list of some of our accepted insurances. Please call to verify since accepted insurance plans can change.

We have a San Antonio location at Oakwell Farms conveniently located near Harry Wurzbach Rd. and 410. The clinic is easily accessed from Oakpark/Northwood, Terrell Hills, Alamo Heights, and Cibolo. We also have one location in Kenedy to serve Karnes County residents (as well as surrounding areas). For directions or more information, please visit our Locations page.

Most medical insurances (including Medicare) do not cover glasses prescriptions, unfortunately. As a courtesy, upon request, we can do a refraction and provide you with the glasses prescription; however, there is a fee for this service. Please indicate that you need a refraction before your appointment so we have enough time to dedicate to your prescription needs.
